Subject: AP-PAC Update 1/5/05
Dear friends,
I wanted to share with you the good news that the Animal Protection
PAC has continued to grow in numbers and resources since the last
alert I sent out, and, in just a couple of weeks, our first
advertisements will be hitting the newspapers.
As a measure to keep the AP-PAC name alive in the press during the
holiday season, I wrote a letter to the editor (see below) which has
so far appeared in the Courier-Post, the Trenton Times, the Home-News
Tribune and the NJ Herald. It may also have or will be published in a
number of other papers (I tend not to know until someone sees it in
print). In any event, we know that people are hearing about the PAC
and that is what is important to furthering our goals.
In order for us to have moved as quickly as we did in forming the
Animal Protection PAC, we used the pre-existing New Jersey
Legislative Action for Animals PAC, which is why you have seen both
names on our previous alerts. Now that we have had some time, we have
legally changed the name to be solely "Animal Protection PAC". This
will streamline things and avoid any possible confusion.
From this point on, any donations should be made out to:
Animal Protection PAC
PO Box 17
Manalapan NJ 07726
Also, in addition to donations not being tax-deductible, please be
aware that NJ State law is very specific in regulating Political
Action Committee's such as ours, and, therefore, we are required to
keep a record of a donor's occupation and the name and mailing
address of the donor's employer. This is one of those legal
technicalities that it is critical that we obey, in order to be in
full compliance with the law. If you could forward this information
with your donation it would be greatly appreciated.
We've accomplished a great deal in the one month since our launch.
With your help, we will continue to be successful and become the
political force the animals desperately need. If you haven't joined
yet, now is the time!

Letter to the Editor
On December 2, the NJ Supreme Court, concluding that the NJ Fish and
Game Council had no scientific plan for managing bears, stopped the
impending hunt with only four days to spare.
That the hunter-dominated Council has no care for science is nothing
new; their sole ambition has always been to supply hunters with
animals to kill. But the court's ruling not only exposed this to a
greater audience, it also revealed a glaring defect in the politics
of animal cruelty in our state: Ten hunters on the Council went
against the will of hundreds of thousands of people who were appalled
by last year's hunt, and they would have repeated their brutality if
not for the court's intervention.
The tragic reality is that those individuals and businesses that
profit and take pleasure in the suffering of animals are both well
financed and politically active. Without a counter-movement to stand
in defense of animals, not only may we face another horrific bear
massacre next year, but animals state-wide will continue to suffer
with little hope of rescue.
If you love animals and are sick of the slaughter of deer, geese and
bears, if dog fighting and the killing of homeless pets breaks your
heart, and if you want the law to punish animal abusers for their
crimes, then you are not alone.
Victory for animals will only be won by political force and by those
who have the will to use it.
