Liberty Animal Shelter in Jersey City and many local veterinarians
perform low-cost spay/neuter procedures for less than .

The following programs are available for feral cats, those that are
born on the streets and have not been domesticated:

Liberty Animal Shelter, 235 Jersey City Blvd., Jersey City, will
perform a spay/neuter procedure for and administer a rabies
vaccination, deworming and topical flea/tick prevention for feral
cats.

The program is subsidized by the nonprofit group People for Animals.

The Hudson County Animal League offers subsidized fees up to for
medical services for hardship cases and will also pay for
spay/neuter.

Bills ranging from to 0 are subject to approval by the
League's medical coordinator, with those more than 0 requiring the
approval of board members.

The League has a low-cost spay/neuter certificate that is accepted by
eight veterinary clinics in Bayonne, Jersey City, Hoboken, Union City
and North Bergen.

For domestic cats, the following programs are available:

Cats adopted from a participating adoption facility or referral
agency are eligible for a spay/neuter procedure through a state
Department of Health and Senior Services Animal Control Program
grant. To qualify, the new owner must be a New Jersey resident and
have adopted the cat from an eligible facility or agency.

Cats can be spayed or neutered and immunized at the above
participating veterinary hospitals for for those who qualify for:
food stamps, Supplemental Social Security income, Aid to Families
with Dependent Children, General Public Assistance, Medicaid,
Pharmaceutical Assistance to the Aged and Disabled, Lifeline Utility
Credit or Tenants Lifeline Assistance.
