Try to keep shelter and rescue events animal-friendly
Hi SHARE Folks -
I want to thank all of you wonderful people for all you do to
help animals.
There are so many great fund-raising events to raise the essential
money to pay for your efforts.
I believe it's important for us to remember that all animals, not
just dogs and cats, have the capacity to suffer physically and
emotionally. And that's why I urge you to plan your events with that
in mind.
When we invite the public to participate in activities, we should
help them become more aware of animal issues. And I think that means
that we should avoid the use of exploited animals at our events. Yes -
I am saying that we should not serve meat, fish, or poultry at our
events.
I know that some of you are vegetarians, and some are not. SHARE is
about SHelter And Rescue, and that means it's mostly about dogs and
cats. All of us are horrified and shocked when we hear about other
cultures that eat animals we call "pets" or "companion animals."
But I hope that we don't limit our compassion to only those animals
who live in our homes.
I'm not trying to convert anyone to a vegetarian lifestyle, although
I wouldn't mind if that happens :-)
But I think we should try to show the public that we will not
sacrifice so-called "food animals" to raise money for so-called "pets."
Thanks for all you do -
Maureen Koplow
