SHARE WINS THE SCOTT MCVAY UNITY AWARD
SHARE was selected as the winner of the Scott McVay Unity Award for 2001. This is an incredible honor for me and for all of you who work with animals. I truly believe that working together and sharing our energy is the best thing we can do to help animals.
The Scott McVay Award is given each year to recognize an individual or group whose unifying efforts have made a lasting impact on improving animal protection. "...The problems we face in the animal protection community can best be served by working together to find practical solutions. This award seeks to honor the collaborative efforts of those who have looked beyond our different methods to achieve a common goal. The nominee may have worked with other animal protection organizations or with corporations, government, media and others in seemingly unrelated fields.... Nominees must have worked with at least one other organization in accomplishing the action for which they are nominated...."
The first Unity Award in 1999 went to Betsy and Jared Saul, founders of NJ-based Petfinder.com, the nations first searchable database of homeless animals. The 2000 Unity Award was presented to NJ Animal Rights Alliance, a nonprofit educational organization that worked on behalf of NJ's black bears, deer, Canadian geese, and has published a free pamphlet entitled "Shep, the Backyard Dog," which informs about the harm that results from housing dogs continuously and exclusively out of doors.
Since 2001, additional winners include People for Animals Neuter Scooter Project, Nina Austenberg of the Humane Society of the United States, St. Hubert's Animal Welfare Center, and John Queenan of Cape May.
I am grateful and proud to be a part of the animal caring community. We are truly the Good Guys!
