The true stories of rescued Mastiffs are written in a lighthearted manner and told mostly by the dogs themselves. The book includes paintings and illustrates poems with Mastiff characters.
About the Book
Most of the tales are eagerly told by the dogs and recorded by the rescuer. The true episodes in this collection of short stories describe how dogs handled their lives when their lives were turned upside-down. You will find that dogs have feelings, a sense of trust and distrust, a job to do and, yes, even a sense of humor. Laughter and tears are not for humans alone.
As you read "Heal My Broken Heart," you will see pictures of the dogs whose lives were interrupted when they were given up for various reasons. Most of the stories have wonderful, happy endings, in spite of the bumbling behavior of some human beings. Poems punctuated with caricatures and colorful artworks of Mastiffs are interspersed amongst the stories. A delightful and humorous look at dogs coping with life; funny, witty, heartbreaking and uplifting, this is a book for all dog lovers.
About the Author
Lucie Fainsbert is a registered nurse and has worked in various fields in the medical profession. She received her undergraduate degree, school nurse certification and masters degree in education and worked as a school nurse and health educator for 25 years, "rescuing" children from themselves and each other. Upon retirement, Lucie became involved with Mastiff Rescue. In the world of rescued Mastiffs, she has been a driving force in rescuing, fostering, nursing back to health, rehabilitating and rehoming dogs to begin their lives anew. Although Mastiffs have been part of the household since 1976, it wasn't until almost 10 years ago that Lucie and her husband, Chuck, became involved in rescuing. The number of Mastiffs to be rescued became so great, having personally rescued 149 to date and fostering most of them, the house was beginning to bulge with Mastiffs. Subsequently, a barn was built, with human amenities, to house some of the dogs. All this activity brought about the sharing of Lucie's artistic talents to raise much needed money to help the rescued dogs. The book is a result of wanting to share with and educate the public as to the plight of unwanted dogs, their feelings and their demise. Lucie is a member of the Mastiff Club of America, the New Jersey Agent for FORM (Friends of Rescued Mastiffs), and Secretary and Rescue Chairperson for the Garden State Mastiff Fanciers Club.
