Birds: Free Parrots web site

New Avian Website

Everyone is Flocking to Free Parrots.Net

This January 5th, we celebrated National Bird Day…a day to take time
to appreciate the native wild birds flying outside our windows and a
good time to also reflect on how we treat the native birds of other
countries.

I'm pleased to announce that it was also the launch date of
http://www.freeparrots.net/ a public site where the news is 'all
about parrots.' Freeparrots.net is a meeting ground for all aspects
of parrot protection--from conservation to rescue--and for everyone
interested in learning more about parrots living in the wild and in
captivity.

"Freeparrots.net" is meant to bring together two communities that
have long worked in isolation from each other, but that have very
similar aims in working for the protection of parrots; on one side
are the rescue shelters and humane societies; on the other are the
conservationists," explains creator, Michael D. Schindlinger, a Ph.D.
candidate in Organismic and Evolutionary Biology at Harvard
University

"Freeparrots.net will cover topics ranging from wild parrot
conservation and eco tourism, to captive bird welfare and adoption,
to avian activism and protection, and will feature the latest news on
issues that effect the lives of parrots worldwide.

As Director of the Oratrix Project, Mike is one of the few
researchers in the world studying parrot behavior and the complex
vocal communication of parrots in the wild. Through his field study,
Mike has spent more than three years observing parrots in the wild as
they court, play, eat, roost, care for their young and communicate
with each other. He has produced a video, "Stalking the Wild Amazon:
The Secret Lives of Wild Parrots," acclaimed as, "the most close up
and personal look ever into the lives of wild amazons."

Mike is also a member of the Avian Welfare Coalition (AWC), a working
alliance of representatives of avian welfare, animal protection and
conservation organizations dedicated to the ethical treatment and
protection of birds living in captivity and in their nature
habitats. http://www.avianwelfare.org.

Help spread the word about www.Freeparrots.net. The parrots will
thank you.
