Great idea on how to pill a cat. from the NYC Ferals group

One of our ferals had an obvious urinary tract infection. I got 14
Clavimox pills from my vet for $11. No you can't shove a pill down a
feral's throat.

But if you get chicken hearts (1 pound for $1.50) cut them in half
and you will see a hole in the middle just made for a pill. I
microwave the pieces for 30 seconds and stir. Repeat as necessary to
get par cooked meat. The cat is so happy to see fresh meat he gobbles it down, pill and all. Of course you have to give some undoctored meat to the other cats. Our guy has had 4 pills so far and is showing great improvement. The vet says to complete the course of 2 pills a day for a week. The down side is that the chicken hearts are disgusting. I don't know what the cats see in them. In the future the only dry food I will leave has to specify urinary tract health.

Question - Do you leave the cut hearts intact? I ask because you
said you stir them after you mic them.

Reply - Yes. The halves stay intact. I stir so they will par cook evenly. It's important not to overcook. The cats like raw meat. I put the pill in the bottom half because it has one hole in the middle which will close over the pill. After the target cat has eaten the pill I give the rest to the others. Almost raw meat doesn't last long so in order to treat for 7 days you have to get more. Our guy is doing well.
