DogsinDanger.com - web site for dogs scheduled to be euthanized
I.m writing to let you know about our new adoption website solely for urgent
shelter dogs. DogsInDanger.com is an Internet-based national shelter ou
treach program dedicated to helping shelters save the millions of dogs that they
are forced to euthanize.
Dogs are listed with a photo and a profile similar to what you've seen, and
perhaps had posted, on other pet adoption sites. The big difference with
DogsInDanger is that this site is only for urgent shelter dogs. The date each dog
is scheduled to be euthanized will be displayed along with the dogs.
pictures and names. We.ll also list the reason (medical, breed, age, behavior, or
space) why euthanasia is scheduled.
You can login to update the dog's status if a dog has been rescued/adopted,
euthanized, or had its euthanasia date extended. In addition to gaining
exposure with potential adopters, we hope rescues will also search this national
database listing of urgent dogs to pull into rescue.
We've designed the site specifically to assist shelters reach more adopters
than they can on their own. The fact is few shelters have the advertising
budgets needed to get their dogs the public attention they deserve. DogsInDanger
is managed by a group of dedicated animal lovers with experience in
sheltering and rescue. It may be uncomfortable for some to see lists of names and
photos of dogs scheduled to be euthanized, but, the truth is uncomfortable. By
making it personal, we believe more people will be compelled to help these
dogs.
DogsInDanger is an absolutely free service, designed to give you as much
help as possible without creating more work for your already overburdened
shelter staff. We've made everything easy, including the registration and update
process. In fact, no special computer knowledge is needed - anyone on your staff
can keep the list current. Here's how it works:
After registering with us, your shelter will have access to an Internet page
where you can list dogs in your shelter facing euthanasia. Keeping the page
current is simple, when you save the list and upload photos, the changes take
effect on our site immediately. And if you don't already have one, we'll
even send you a digital camera at no cost.
Today we started registering shelters. Two weeks from now we will commence
an Internet and print marketing campaign targeting potential adopters and
driving traffic to the site to see your listed dogs.
When you visit DogsInDanger.com, you'll note that it is tasteful and almost
quiet in its presentation. At the same time, however, DogsInDanger is about
reducing dog euthanasia, and we're not shy about telling people beyond our
community the magnitude of this needless national tragedy.
Of course, we have a section featuring the happy endings that we, and our
partner shelters, help arrange. But possibly unique among dog rescue sites,
DogsInDanger will feature a "memorial wall" where we'll keep the names and
pictures of the dogs for who time simply just...ran....out.
We believe in the power of compassion, and that the American public would be
doing more to help and adopt from shelters, if only they knew how many dogs
shelters are forced to euthanize. We also believe that shelters don't really
want to euthanize dogs, if they had any other option.
We welcome comments and suggestions to make this site as shelter-friendly
and successful as can be. I hope you can take a few minutes today to visit our
site, learn more about us, and let us help you save your dogs.
Sincerely,
Brenda Bush
Director, The Buddy Fund Inc.
